Functions and Features

An HSNS3 board receives mixed signals of STM-16/STM-64 services with the total bandwidth not higher than 40 Gbit/s from the backplane, encapsulates them into ODU1/ODU2/ODU3/OTU3 units, and transmits them out through an optical port.

Table 1 and Table 2 list the functions and features supported by an HSNS3 board.

  • Provides one OTU3 optical port to transmit/receive and process 1xOTU3 services.
  • Supports four virtual ports to carry 4 x 10 Gbit/s SDH services.
  • Supports a maximum of four virtual ports when receiving/transmitting STM-16 services.
  • Supports a maximum of four virtual ports when receiving/transmitting STM-64 services.
NOTICE:

The board capacity is license-controlled. One license provides a 10 Gbit/s capacity and one board provides a maximum capacity of 40 Gbit/s.

The board license is granted on a per-board basis.

Optical module specifications
  • Supports CFP pluggable optical modules.
  • Supports the monitoring and querying of optical module information.
  • Switches lasers on or off and provides automatic laser shutdown (ALS).
Error correction coding
  • Supports forward error correction (FEC) coding in compliance with ITU-T G.709.
  • Supports EFEC coding in compliance with ITU-T G.975.1.
NOTE:

HSNS3 boards using different error correction coding schemes cannot interconnect with each other.

Synchronization Supports four channels of SDH clock signals or one channel of OTN clock signals.
Overhead processing Supports processing of D1-D12 bytes by virtual ports 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 59, and 63, and processing of D1-D3 bytes by the other eight virtual ports.
Alarm monitoring and performance monitoring Monitors the bias current and operating temperature of lasers, and the optical power.

Function and Feature Description
Basic functions Receives a maximum of 4xSTM-16 or 4xSTM-64 SDH service signals from the backplane, encapsulates the received signals into ODU1/ODU2/ODU3/OTU3OTU3 units, and sends out the multiplexed signals from its optical port.
The service mapping paths are as follows:
  • STM-16 <-> ODU1 <-> ODU3 <-> OTU3
  • STM-64 <-> ODU2 <-> ODU3 <-> OTU3
Limitations on virtual ports

Four virtual port IDs 51, 55, 59 and 63 can be configured.

Service processing Supports VC-12, VC-3, VC-4, VC-4-4c, VC-4-8c, VC-4-16c, and VC-4-64c services (VC-4-4c, VC-4-8c, VC-4-16c, and VC-4-64c services are concatenated services).
Overhead processing
  • Processes section overheads of STM-16 or STM-64 signals.
  • Transparently transmits or terminates path overheads.
  • Supports the setting and querying of J0, J1, and C2 bytes.
  • Supports one channel of GCC0 communication and ECC communication on four virtual ports.
Protection schemes
  • Supports two-fiber bidirectional ring multiplex section protection (MSP).
  • Supports Linear MSP.
  • Supports subnetwork connection protection (SNCP).
  • Supports subnetwork connection tunnel protection (SNCTP).
Maintenance features Supports inloops and outloops on VC-4 paths.

Supported Wavelengths

HSNS3 boards support the following wavelengths:

  • 1271 nm, 1291 nm, 1311 nm, and 1331 nm when the transmission distance is 10 km or 40 km
  • 1531.12 nm, 1537.4 nm, 1543.73 nm, and 1550.12 nm when the transmission distance is 80 km
NOTE:

An optical module supporting a transmission distance of 40 km or 10 km cannot interconnect with an optical module supporting a transmission distance of 80 km.

Laser Hazard Level

The laser hazard level of the optical port on an HSNS3 board is CLASS 1. That is, the maximum launched optical power of the optical port is lower than 10 dBm (10 mW).

The mechanical specifications of HSNS3 boards are as follows:

Power Consumption
